Simply installing it through steam will install the latest version. I never play the online, only the single player stuff.

I have purchased every single stronghold tittle to date. I just purchased SH3 and couldn't believe there was no skirmish mode, that for me was the most enjoyable part of the game. I fail to understand why a company would remove the section of a game that gave it the greatest replay value. No offence but the campaign in SH2 was much more enjoyable, in fact SH2 was a much more enjoyable game. hopefully you listen to your customers and provide a skirmish mode if not i will be getting a steam refund and will not be purchasing future products from FireFly.

Stronghold 3 was intended to be just alike Stronghold 1. SH1 does not have a skirmish.

Yes, but surely improving on stronghold 1 with stronghold 3 was also intended? as it stands stronghold crusader and stronghold 2 are miles ahead. Anyway, i remember reading during development that you were taking the best of both games and merging them into one. Best thing about stronghold 2 was how large the armies could be without no performance issues, the stone walls acting like proper castle walls not being chopped down by a man and his spear, best of all, skirmish mode.. the a,i was not great but the game had years of replayability.

I'm not trying to be disrespectful to you guys, i think stronghold 3 got the look and atmosphere spot on, i love the dirty gritty look of the game it is perfect for the medieval theme. I love the music and sound effects are decent. The map editor although a tad annoying that it is a separate program, it is still very good and i'm glad we have it as a tool. I'm disappointed you guys removed siege towers and laddermen from the editor yet they are available in mp? Is there a reason why you withhold such content from those of us who only play single player? such as invasion mode with the editor.

I hope that with the next stronghold the publishers who ever they may be give you more time to at least release a game in working order, i thank you for the many patches that you guys pushed out to get the game to a decent state, but overall as a stronghold series fan i must say i feel a little bit disappointed with stronghold 3, i feel that you guys might of sacrificed a lot for improved graphics. I hope there will be some kind of beta or new forum for most wanted features for the next game such as troops not hacking down walls and such.

That said, i will continue to support this series if indeed there is to be another stronghold, i shall be buying it. Unless it is Legends two, monsters are a big no for me

Cheers.

Re:Stronghold 3 – We are listening and we are working 1 Year ago
Just thought I'd share my own personal feelings about the SH series

SH1 = great game, lots of fun, lovely!

SHC = cant believe they improved the first, brilliant!

SH2 = yeah it looks nice, playable, fun, I did like the gong/rats idea, I also liked the honor points system and siege camps very good improvements. but it was missing the soul of the first two, felt rushed, unfinished, unloved, could of been brilliant. FF I'M A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT YOU

SHL = lost the plot a bit here, too fantasy, too silly. FF BAD MOVE, CANT BELIEVE YOU WENT IN THIS DIRECTION.

SHCE = cant understand why it was made. FF YOU NEED SOME EXTRA CASH OR SOMETHING? THATS FINE AS LONG AS IT DOESNT EFFECT THE MAIN SERIES!

SHK = never played it cant comment.

SH3 = never played it, but for me this should have been SHC2 or an equivalent format, but now SH3 is here I'm wondering what the next move will be?!

(Stronghold 3 was intended to be just alike Stronghold 1. SH1 does not have a skirmish.)
Well lets face it going back to SH1 would require much less work than going back to a SHC format! Was the above statement going to be the official excuse from the outset? My intent is not to offend I just think you have become far to complacent FF. You have to put the effort in to produce something special, as it is now your just riding the waves of your previous successes and now those waves have hit the shore FF.

See this is why the community is so worried about you FF you just don't seem to care anymore, the passion is gone, the drive is gone. I mean saying there will be no more patches for SH3 is just SUICIDAL guys. are you deliberately trying to kill off this series? Destroy the fan base?? Damage your company??? dear me FF!

You guys have the best medieval castle builder in the SH series, but it's like you guys think the SH series has already reached it's full potential (that the series has climaxed) and have become complacent with the it? Whether or not that complacency is the result of being too Lazy? Too Greedy? Or just being too Comfortable through lack of competition is the real question??? The reality is that the full potential of the SH series hasn't even been fully realized yet! All you have done FF is exploit the success of the first two games of this popular series, and played around not doing anything really beneficial for the series since SH2 which was solid, but still unfinished, it had that (I cant be bothered) feel about it and that's when things started to go down hill.

FF you really need to stop playing around and see the gold mine you have at your feet, you know deep down exactly what the fans want and like. You have showed us in the past you know how to produce brilliance, let's see it again, embrace the community and produce something special.

I feel you should retract the statement about there not being any more patches for SH3 and show the fans that you will see it through so the game is at least solid. Perhaps you maybe saving extra features that people are complaining about for an expansion pack of some kind? but then shouldnt some of these missing features be already part of the main game, see there we go again ?????? you make us all wonder.

Well that's all I have to say really, my intent was not to offend you FF, I care about you a great deal as do the community, but your really making everyone scratch their heads at the moment! Good luck!

Hi...
am i the only one that has graphic problems (massive flickering) with SH2 since i installed SH3 or one of its patches?
Sure the simpliest solution is to deinstall SH3 because after deinstallation SH2 (Version 1.3) is running without problems -strange.
I already tried all the advices that were given in the "technical" rubric but it could not be a Windows7 problem or a problem with SH2 1.3 or 1.4.1 version. Anyone any ideas?..Daz01?...thanks..

Nevertheless I still hope that Firefly will proceed in working on SH3 or to produce a new purchaseable SH3+ Version that will realize the huge slumbering potential of SH3. (Perhaps its just better to further develop SH2 with its perfect wall-building and its huge army causing no PC-problems.) cheers

Guys,

Huge disappointment! To me personally this feels like a prequel to SH2, in the sense that it's a downgrade from it in many ways.

Anyway, these are my preliminary comments having played the game for couple of hours:

1. Troops should be able to run.

2. In SH2 you could connect armory, barracks and other stonewall buildings with each other and your castle. This was really cool, tidy and efficient.

3. I really miss the spirit in SH2, where each unit in the game i.e. farmer, hunter, woodcutter etc. had their own character, different voices, different thoughts which they said out loud.

4. Overall graphics feel unfinished. Grass growing out of wooden floor inside the Hovel or Inn is not cool. What happened to the inside view of the castle/keep when there is a feast on etc.

5. Is it just me or there isn't a Lord's eye view anymore?

6. Skirmish mode! Please add!

I hope you find the above helpful and implement some of changes.

Hi Illidan Elennarin

The game Stronghold 3 was intended to be just as the original. The 'watered down' feeling of the game is intended as SH1 only has 2 campaigns, free-build, Siege maps, and multiplayer all packed up. These same features are in SH3 to keep the original alive.

Troops have the ability to run but Men-at-arms are not allowed to run simply because they would prove too lethal if they had the ability to run. They're a bit too powerful.

You can enable 'freeview' by pressing and holding Alt+F. Lords eye is not in game.

Stronghold 3 is not designed for skirmish. There is a fun free-build mode where you can build your castle freely and trigger attacks when your ready to test your defenses.
