D2D Legends and Bonus Map Pack 3 Years, 2 Months ago
I purchased Legends from Direct2Drive as part of the Stronghold Collection bundle. Installed using the easy install (i.e. everything default, paths etc.) onto C:. It runs fine, and indicates version 1.2. The Legends Trails menu has three trails showing.

I figured that I'd download the bonus map pack too, which I did successfully, but it won't install. Installshield starts up but immediately displays a dialogue box which says

QUOTE:
Please install Stronghold Legends before installing Stronghold Legends Bonus Maps.

Is there a trick to this? A missing/modified registry key for the D2D version? Is the content already included in the D2D version somewhere or from the D2D site?

I'd ask D2D directly if I was you Dry. As it comes from them and its their own install related stuff, only they can help.

If it is indeed something outside of that then we should be able to pinpoint something. Have a chat with their support and make sure its not them first though, just incase

I don't think you need to do this, I believe that content is already in the version which comes with The Stronghold Collection.

Should the fourth trail show up in the trails menu right from the start? Or is it only triggered later? Right now, I only see three trails.

I do appear to have trailBonusN.slm files in the maps directory, though. What were some of the other map names?

I believe two of the maps are: Alliance Against Evil and Volcano Island

DryHumour,

Could you check your registry and see if the following exist:

Reg key is HKLM\SOFTWARE\Firefly Studios\Stronghold Legends\Bonus
should have a value of 1

Also the 4 map files installed are trailBonus1, 2, 3, 4

The bonus trails maps are present, but the trail doesn't appear in the "Legends Trails" menu.

The registry key is not present: "HKLM\Software\Firefly Studios" does not exist at all. However "HKLM\Software\2K Games\Stronghold Legends" does exist, but does not contain a key called "Bonus".

The plot thickens.

BTW, Direct2Drive support says "... the bonus maps you refer to should already be included in the game."

Re:D2D Legends and Bonus Map Pack 3 Years, 2 Months ago
I gritted my teeth and reverse engineered the installer. The problem is a missing registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\strongholdlegends.exe

Long story short: add the registry key and two values below and the Bonus Map pack will install.

The gory details: The D2D installer is a NullSoft (NSIS) installer which I presume was spun either by D2D or 2K Games. I suspect that the original Firefly "gold" installer was an InstallShield, as is the Bonus Maps installer. I suspect that IS either automatically adds the App Paths key, or in some way automates the task so as to make it almost entirely transparent to the author -- and that this detail was not communicated or realized by the author of the D2D NSIS installer. (And indeed, until the release of the Bonus Map pack, it didn't matter.)

[ N.B. There doesn't appear to be a way to get BBcode to put the line breaks in the right places, even with code tags. Sigh. ]

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\strongholdlegends.exe]
"Path"="C:\\Program Files\\2K Games\\Stronghold Legends"
