Some problem with steam 3 Years, 6 Months ago
I cant play on Gameranger or Gamespy because i bought the game "Stronghold Crusader Extreme" over steam... Then i also got the original one, but in Gameranger it cant find the original one... only the extreme version It sucks

Maybe its a bug, because when gameranger ask me to find the exe. file of "Stronghold Crusader", i found it, but then there stand its the wrong exe. There was also another exe. called "Stronghold Crusader Extreme". But when i launch the games, just to test if it works.... then the both exe. files were launching "Stronghold Crusader Extreme".... Means that the "Stronghold Crusader" exe. file is the same as the Extreme

You know.... I launch "Stronghold Crusader" then i launch "Stronghold Crusader Extreme"

And if i launch "Stronghold Crusader Extreme" then i launch "Stronghold Crusader Extreme"

The only way that i can play the original game is launching on steam, where the gamelist is, then i just double click on the icon and then there come a box so i can choose to play the extreme or original.

I cant find any way to launch the original game without steam

Is there any possible way to fix that?

I don't use Game Ranger, but can you not manually add the game to the list, or change the file path for games that are already there? If so, you can just change which exe it points to. Your Steam games aren't encrypted or anything.

So find your steam folder (Default is C:\Program Files\Steam\) and go into your user name (its the name on top of your steam window) for example 'assassinbeast' and then to \common\ and then \stronghold crusader\ and it should be there.

So it could be in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\assassinbeast\common\stronghold crusader" I don't own the game on Steam however, so I can't give you an exact file path. But if you follow my instructions it should not be too difficult to find.

Games bought on Steam require Steam to run for working. It's not necessary to be online with Steam for playing though. If you start Steam, then select File in the menu at the top, you can restart Steam in Offline mode.

I don't know if it's possible to play games bought on Steam on Gameranger or Gamespy, you will have to check with support at those places.

Games bought on steam is a bad choice.
They try to limit your use of the game by setting unecesarry restrictions to promote themselves.
That's why I certainly don't buy games from steam.
Bought empire total war, but regret that later when appaerantly I had to use steam. Took me almost 2 hours of installing, having to do all the extra steam bull****. When I buy a game in the stores, I expect (unless MMO) it to be install game, play. Easy, simple, quick.
I want to play the game, not get full of spam on how steam is so "great" etc.

Thats the problem... i know where the crusader and crusader extreme exe.'s are as you said:

C:\Programmer\Steam\steamapps\common\stronghold crusader extreme

But the hell strange thing is that there are two exe.'s to launch. One called "Stronghold Crusader" and one called "Stronghold Crusader Extreme" But they both launch "Stronghold Crusader Extreme". So theres no point of having two exe. files that launch the same game.

So... i think its prossible to use gameranger if i should play the extreme version, but i cant play the original because i cant launch the original version without clicking into the "My Games" in steam

Btw, i can manually add the game to the list and i dont think i can change which exe. it points to. But when i add the "non-steam game" to the list... as i said, it will launch the extreme version of it anyway (very strange)

Well, i dont think you guys can help me anymore

Thanks anyway

Thats odd, because in my version 'Stronghold Crusader' opens up the old warchest version, while Extreme opens ...Extreme. You sure about this? Because its not like that for me at all.
