Me too. If you take out gong, rats, crime and torture, you end up with Age of Empires 2.

I don't like it, okay on sim maps, but not skirmish.

If they remove crime it will help alot.
Why crime?
Simple, it takes way to many buildings for just that.
We then remain with gongs and rats which is more bearable to live with.

Seems key thing is to give out doble rations. Easy and fast to get, makes you able to use high taxes.

variable prices on goods. Makes farming stone, iron or similar and to sell little effective.
Prices influence all players, so if you've got much resources another one can't aquire, if you sell like mad prices will drop, and he can buy that resource cheaper. In other words you might be just helping him.

Larger maps would also help alot.

Sometimes is necessary in economy campain but in the skirmish It's too difficult and in the free maps (I mean, when you play alone in the map) you should choose to torture your people or let them stay in peace

I didn't like it at first because I found it hard to manage, having never dealt with that sort of stuff in RTS' before. But after I learned how to properly place things, it's okay. Gives a sense of realism, although I wouldn't go so far as to say I love it.

There is a Easy solution to all gong/rats/crime

You need to use 7 of your population to handle the problem 2Gong pits one by your wood cutters one by the center of the base 2falcon posts Around your farms 2Guard towers and 1 for the courthouse

Put your Hovels In a line stack'd together So they would be facing each other at either side Face to Face and make sure its 6/6 Or whatever

Put a Wooden fence around them and place one guard tower At the gate overlooking them he will find any thief that comes out and if one slips past put the other Guard tower Facing your granary he will find the others Put your courthouse against the Wooden Fence and then put humiliation mask's Just infront of the courthouse and the judge will take them there ( No need for a Tourtes Guide )

Put 1Gong pit by your Woodcutter's Iron/Stone Teathers Whatever you find more satisfying and then place one in the middle of your base at the side of your Keep

Place 1 Falcons Post in the center of your food production And then Place 1 More on the outskirts of your food production

To Raise happiness without Loosing your work force because they normally go watch it right?

Put up a Javeline Thing (Costs 500wood and 500Gold) Build that As far away from your Base as possible and while it is been constructed Build A Wooden Fence around it compleatly Blocking it of (Will give +Population And Honor)

At the side of That put up a Traveling Fair and then do the same thing again Put a wooden fence around it blocking it off compleatly as you did with the Javeline thing lol ( Will give +Population )

After you have done that if you have a treasury put it to max Tax's And put your food give out on Max

Make alot of Gold and get Alot of happyness Really quick and simple guide for anyone who doesnt know lol

If none of you get this i can post screenshots on what you dont understand and make it easyer to understand

OPTIONAL

You can Build a Church and Buy the candles Yourself be sure to put it to Max mass i forgot what its called That gives you even more Happyness but this is not needed and can be optional

I dont understand why som of you sed that it is complicted to deal with it. All you have to do is place your bulding at strategic place. Personaly I dont over spam thos bulding. For crime you just have to place on or two guard post very clos the granery. For «poop» it generly apper near your resours deposit so put on pit near it. Other wise I just put about 2 moor of each (falconer and pit) around my «food production area» depand on how I buld my base. For the punishement I only buld the first one. Its prisless, the fastest and you generly no need fo moor. The other just take mush longer until the reabilitation and that make one sitizen lees for the collect.

I'm sory for my bad english just note that I'm from Québec so my first language is franch...

Re:Gong, Rats and Crime Controversy 3 Years, 1 Month ago
I tend to agree with Tempz . . . controlling these problems can be easy if you know the "tricks." At the same time, I sometimes find myself wishing that some tricks (such as completely fencing in certain buildings) couldn't be used to solve a problem that the designers had intended to mirror the society SH2 is based on.

Life expectancy in those days was barely 40 years, if not a bit less. Health & hygiene conditions (gong?) were very bad, rat & insect infestations (falconer?) were common; and, since most citizens were fairly poor in addition to their other worries, I would imagine that there would be quite a temptation to grab a little something extra (steal?) for your cute little plague-ridden 3-yr-old daughter who has head lice, bed bugs and 5 pet rats to feed.

I will admit, though, some mappers do seem to have an over-friendly attraction to these things, so I guess for now we'll have to keep wading through them--as it were.

Odyss
