Re:Hacking GameRules.dat file 1 Year ago
I found out why my mod broke the game. I accidentally replaced the core file with one that was missing some files (due to incomplete conversion from zip file), and now I will have to start again. It's no big deal, modders can always start from scratch. I will upload it with the new patch and and more. Stronghold 3 is very easy to mod, probably because Firefly knew that the game would need to be fixed. If anyone has some requests for simple changes, I might be able to implement them.

I finally figured out how to give units more animations. The man at arms now has a sword for melee and three melee animations. I hope the next patch is really good, because then I will be uploading a high quality mod.

The mod I made some weeks ago was only for an alternative style of gameplay, and some personal preferences. The patch is almost out. I am wondering weather I should make my modifications for the gold edition or the standard or both. What is the gold edition? I need to know in advance whether it will change what I am doing beyond the patch.

Thanks if you know how to mod stronghold 2 I would appreciate that as well, I do not intend to change anything but unit stats which I am familiar with and I can keep the balance and game performance.
Do you know how to edit the gamerules.dat of stronghold2. I really what to know.ThX!!

Ensrick,

This happened to me too. The makev.exe app from the MediaFire link generates ".v" files that crash Stronghold 3 at game launch. I tested it by simply converting the original "core.v" file according to the instructions that came with the makev.exe app. I didn't change or edit any of the files within it. Then I converted it back to a ".v" file and copied it to the Stronghold 3 > assets folder. Even when I don't modify the files inside core.v, the game still crashes.

So I was wondering if you found a solution, since it sounds like you apparently successfully implemented your mods in the game.

You have to turn the V file back into the original file type. Instructions come with the Mediafire link. Try reading them more closely.
