Bugs, Issues and Glitches (Update Patch 1.7.25411) 1 Year, 7 Months ago  
Congratulations Firefly, you managed to make a game that actually is even buggier than Stronghold 2 and to commemorate this occasion here is a nice list. But at least it looks nice... anyway, my bug-list and issues list, and glitch list. Lots of em to be honest.

Additional Bugs added on top now, revised list, now up-to-date (more or less) with patch 1.7.25411 also many things the manual says are in the game are not.

Stuff posted by Todayskiller relating to MP
- Spawn issues (put team 1 on one side of the river, team 2 on the other side, it spawned one team 1 player and one team 2 player on the same side).
- Building walls inside enemy territory? (pretty sure this isn't meant to be)
- Crashed when an enemy built walls inside my territory (multiplayer)



- Ragdolls behave.. glitchy, can slide down slight elevations and fall through pitches and various geometry

- still MP glitches abound, after playing a game nobody in a lobby can host another one without quitting out of the lobby (back to the main menu)
- Desyncs still aplenty, but not always, likely related to specific actions and buildings/units.. but i have no urge to find out in detail.
- archers and landsknechte have the same range and landsknecht can shoot not only through walls, but also through gate houses at units behind and on top, further destroying ANY strategy or reason to even build walls.
- Buildings can burn but inhabitants continue to work (Fletchers..)
- Units on walls can be pushed off the wall when building a gatehouse/tower/bastion on ANY section of the wall
- Wall topside has
*no collision box*
*historical inaccurate 2 sided crenels* (In fact, there should be 2 wall types, 1 with 1 side crenel 1 side slight elevation, and 1 with 1 side crenels and other side open)
*ladders no longer cause the crenels to disappear where they connect causing units to "glitch" through*
- fast constant double clicking on gatehouses.. is hilarious, and glitchy
- If a keep is entirely enclosed by walls and 1 gate house, ordering like 20 or 30 units through the gatehouse while it closes freezes the game (only works when everything is enclosed by a wall, on maps where you use hillsides as walls it does not work for some reason..)
- Map collision boxes are not only still broken, but wall "area of denial" for enemy units can change when you build things on a wall, this means previously "closed" gaps can open and are NOT CLOSABLE anymore
- Traps can still not be deleted

Graphics
- shadows are completely borked, the healer "house" has no wall in the shadow, huts (for peasants) have no front wall, lots of other buildings (like the armory) have no solid shadow whatsoever. (In all cases i am talking about the SHADOW, not the actual model) shadows are supposed to be always solid, even if i can look inside a building it looks completely broken in-game, also whats up with those incredible blurry and undefined shadows anyway... give us SUPER ULTRA graphic option, that unblurs them and makes them sharp or at least noticeable defined
- The SSAO implementation flickers on grass terribly and why not HBAO ?
- Where is AA and AF settings?
- Memory leak somewhere
- No VSYNC option
- The stone mason animation is glitchy/intersecting
- Repaired walls that were damaged before retain their cracks in a visually extremely unpleasing way
- Healthbar and the Pick-Axe pointer have graphical glitches
- The wall textures are very blurry and too "pattern-repeated"
- Lights fade-out to total nothingness... but torches don't alternate between on and off, they are always on. So their light should always be on, this is the case when light casts on buildings, but for some reason its different on the ground.
- Fire effect is hilariously cheap, please fix that!
- The Trinigy engine supports glossmap animations.. for rain hitting buildings appearing like running-water? Why not use them?

Assorted
- Units can get stuck in the ladder-climbing animation, when moving over land
- Units can literally get stuck in building geometry.
- No attack move, or if its there not documented.
- attack move is not toggle able and often prevents you from moving units from combat away
- Patrol button doesn't work at all
- Units can get literally frozen and refuse all orders including "dismantle" (the bug does not survive a game-save-reload so yeah..)

- Units can get stuck on platforms and float in the air (or actually, wooden platforms can randomly disappear I guess - or enemies can destroy them through a wooden wall?!)
- Are Landsknecht / Man-At-Arms supposed to run around unarmed after they throw a spear? If yes, then excuse me.. but that is idiotic. Give them a knife, a club, or hell, give them a boot, something! Nobody runs around unarmed on a battlefield, NOBODY.
- Units blob together during combat and all the time, every-time.. it looks hilariously broken, particularly on ladders and stairs, walls and .. well, anyhere.
- Some missions give Info about units that we don't have access to in missions.
- Ordering units on "towers" and "platforms" is finicky, gives no proper feedback, and even if it gives feedback units do not go where the movement arrow points to (and sometimes they get flat-out stuck)
- Why the heavens can lumber men not defend against wolves?
- There is no "You are under-attack" warning when enemies ravage your town
- Why make Armory and Barracks such a way that we can't connect them as-is? Not only can't we connect them, but putting walls between them is kinda glitchy, and requires some "magical" distance that is nowhere visible. Its trial and error, lots of error...
- Collision boxes on maps are completely cryptic. You have absolutely no ieda where you can walk, and where not. And sometimes the walk cursor even shows "you can't walk here" but if you attack the units behind that point your units walk there anyway...
- The enemy AI does not close the gates (or wooden gates in any case)
- Enemy AI is glitched by the famous "hole in wall" bug. AI prefers the wall with open gates.. where my 600 guys are in towers and on platforms. Over the undefended side wall with 0 guys, but a closed gate... yeah
- Stuff (as in actual buildings!) can randomly go ***** nilly, like literally disappear although for some reason it happens more likely on the "fringe" of your empire ;p
- There is no view display on the minimap, no sorting functions and no ping.
- Lumberjacks need zones of operation to prevent some hilarious AI glitches (rivers...)
- Units move slower when they are not attacking, which is rife for exploitation and cheesing
- Units gain no protection from walls.. which makes them utterly useless
- ground attack does nothing either (only in freeplay?)
- catapult projectiles "recoil" back from walls (looks funny)
- cursor has a weird offset, where you point is not where it clicks
- Game speed not variable
- Gatehouses, Towers and Barracks/Armory can bug walls in a visually extremely unpleasing way
- Multiplayer is full of desync issues and often doesn't work at all


New batch of issues collected
- selection of units seems to be view-distance dependent, far out it often doesn't work properly

- no rally point can be set for anything
- units don't auto-heal.. which means they don't heal at all!
- spearmen on move seem to have issues when you order them to attack while they move
- sometimes wooden walls are reversed and wooden platforms can only be placed on the wrong side (if that can happen with walls too its a major issue)
- sometimes the peasant indicator disappears when placing hovels
- Your units ignore the enemy unless they are directly being attacked. Other units won't try to help the ones being attacked even if they are standing next to the guy getting killed. And stances are generally broken as well.
- arrows fly *through* walls
- stone stairs seems to be impossible to rotate, and thus seem only be placeable in the direction it is when selecting it from build menu. Also placement is erratic and often doesn't work on short already built wall segments, they are too large and normally should be "along" the wall, and NOT poking into the castle. So generally speaking, stone stairs are broken-by-design
- "general" report that building walls is extremely daft and glitchy, bastions can be connected with towers, but not with stairs. Towers can not have stairs either. Where is the stair-well building?
- You can't place torches, braziers, and traps on the wall segment between armory and barracks (or on those even!) and often placing traps and ramparts is as glitchy as building walls.
- Theres no way to connect 2 walls together to form an enclosed loop without using some tricks
- Theres no way to actually build a straight wall unless you are pedantic and very careful (straight as in, same orientation as all the other walls)
- Trees should probably regrow...
- Pressing "L" (focus on Lord) at the beginning where no building has been built prevents from accessing the building menu which means to restart the level.
- Value of houses (1 peasant huts) goues to "nil" at certain points in game which prevent from increasing population.

- Several freezes quitting the game and switching between game and desktop
- Tutorial can be glitched by not "quite" obeying what it says

- Deleting walls sometimes leaves a "floating segment" that can't be erased or build over

So far i added only the things i can 100% confirm as green for patch 1.2.24396 and v.1.3.24532

These things have been fixed so far...
- Lumberman and Millers can get stuck, only complete close/open sometimes fixes it.
- Where the **** is the MANUAL ? (Steam version)
- The game can become "glitched" into what i call lovely a "freeze-down" FPS crawl to 1 per second until you reach the main menu (esc) where it goes all smooth again, you can save and reload (which causes a crash) or you close down the game and restart it, reload the game, and it works again.
- map sizes are too small
- Where is the lord? Why isn't there a "focus on lord" button? Particularly when losing him loses you most (if not all) missions
- Iron Mines have some serious work motivation issues according to http://www.fireflyworlds.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=271&func=view&id=14694&catid=46
- Wolves can climb ladders (i didn't even realize this i saw it too in M2 ,p)
- you can't place buildings where peasants work realistic maybe, but sometimes particularly when you have longer distances theres a constant stream of peasants in some areas, making it pure luck to place anything
- selecting unitīs is imprecise (as is attacking)

I ve played several hours, and i ve made a little village, and i ve seen Big lag/freeze when i want to place another building.

I had at least 30 buildings, and i couldn t build more... without this big lag. I had to delete a building, and the lag/freeze desapeared, but when i would to build again, another lag/freeze

I ve changed graphics, but it s not a problem from this.

My config is

i really like the stronghold games but this is just sad, it feels like i have spent 49,99 euro just to get access to a beta test of the game

I just did the same. How do you call a game "the third instalment of the series" and take out the ability to skirmish with the AI. This seriously gimps the game and had I known this important detail, I most certainly would not have purchased the game.

Ah don't be too sad For one thankfully i bought it on GMG.. so i only paid 25€ and can't get a refund, and besides that i honestly think that these issues can be fixed. The Game just needed 1 month more polish, for some reason it was not given that.

Anyway i added more things by other people and from the forums, and you are still invited to post your own glitches and bugs here so they are easy to find. Naturally though, you do not need to post steps to replicate.. because to replicate one just has to play the game for an hour ;P
