They said in the interview that with sh2 the graphics engine owned them because 3d was new to them that time. Now they figured all out and are owning the engine instead.
@intel: no , the landscape is natural and fluid and you can place buildings however you want. You can turn them around 360° as well. Looks so great. The screenshots are damn small and not that pretty (quality vice) and I don't want to break the copyright of Gamestar though.
I like the fact that they throw away the estate idea. You are supposed to build up a castle, not a whole land

So the maps would be too small for a whole land and it fits just fine that way imho.
