Intallation Issues 2 Years, 7 Months ago
I recently decided to re-play stronghold but upon installing it I ran into some problems. I am using a new computer from when I first played and when I installed it I got a warning from an ad-aware program that it was trying to mess with my kernel, which is normal but I wasn't thinking and told it to block. It then froze during install and made me force-quit it. After that the auto-run would give me a play or uninstall option, if I hit either it just closed the auto-run and nothing happened. I couldn't take the block off so I just uninstalled the ad-aware program and tried again, same problem, it just closes. I eventually opened the disc manually from My Computer and ran setup and it asked me to uninstall it. When I try this the wizard comes up but never goes past 0% then it just tells me it has uninstalled completely. When I try to run setup again it just does the same thing. I tried restarting the computer and trying again but same issue. So I am stuck not being able to play, uninstall, or fix the install. Any solutions? For the record I am running a 64-bit version of Windows 7. Thank you.

Hi XanderPaul

First make sure to unhide hidden files and folder, and that you can see the filetype name of known files.

You can see in below link how to do that. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial151.html

Next is finding the folder {C917BA70-28A3-4C74-B163-41FD8C8E1A5A} in the Installshield Installation Information folder and delete it. Before deleting the folder make sure you found the correct folder by opening and then checking the contents of the file Setup.ini if it contains a line saying AppName=Stronghold (if you delete the wrong folder you will have a program that can not be uninstalled), if Setup.ini does not contain that line you will have to search the other folders with strange names until you find the correct one.

Make sure to delete the contents of the Temp folders thereby making sure there are no remnants of the game left there from the faulty installation. Also manually check in the Program Files(x86) folder if there are any remnants of the game there, if there is delete it.

Now try again instaling the game.
